On March 11th 2014, I launched another ‘Make Day’. The theme was Dinosaurs, and you all submitted 21 creative project ideas to me that morning! Thank you.
The finalists were a dinosaur wine bottle holder, mini dinosaurs for potted plants, and dinosaur bookends. I decided that my idea for the dinosaur bookends was the most exciting, so I started developing it immediately. I bought a bunch of red oak from the lumber store, and began drawing dinosaur fossils in Photoshop.
The end result is a carefully layered block of red oak, with four different time periods laser engraved into the end grain. These scientific fossil bookends feature the Dimetrodon from the Permian, Eoraptors from the Triassic, Stegosaurus from the Jurassic, and of course a T-Rex skull from the Cretaceous! They’re all layered in order and weigh just under 2 pounds. These look GREAT on a bookshelf and are available individually or as a set in the Fringe Focus Store.
